Pre-veterinary medicine and biology major

Katy LeVon, a senior pre-veterinary medicine and biology major with a life-science emphasis, says that her greatest accomplishments during her time spent at The University of Findlay include successfully completing four years of rigorous course loads while being a resident assistant and then a resident director, serving as the undergraduate representative to the Board of Trustees and balancing a social life.            

A native of Plattsburgh, N.Y., LeVon came to The University of Findlay for one main reason: “I chose the University for the pre-vet program — it was unlike any other program I had seen at other colleges,” said LeVon. “The hands-on program was what solidified my choice. When I came to visit the campus, I received a tour of the barn where I would have classes and contact with animals daily. I knew I was in the right place, and that this was where I was supposed to spend my undergraduate years.”   


After four years, LeVon’s appreciation for the University has grown to include more than just the pre-vet program. As a member of Residence Life, LeVon has remained actively involved on campus and she says she is thankful for the opportunity to meet so many different people within the campus community.            
“The faculty and staff members are personable, approachable and always willing to help. The relationships that I have made with some of my professors will carry on past my time at UF — being able to have that opportunity to know my professors personally is not something you find at many colleges,” said LeVon. “My peers have also continuously encouraged and supported me. The memories I have made with my classmates — whether at Residence Life training, in the classroom or hanging out with my friends on the weekends — are priceless.”            
Her involvement on campus extends beyond relationship building. As the undergraduate representative to the Board of Trustees, LeVon has been responsible for collecting data and comments from surveys taken by UF students three times during the academic year.

“I present the information to the Student Services committee and the Board of Trustees to inform the committee and Board members of undergraduate student opinions on certain topics, like the quality of education, campus activities and more,” said LeVon. “Representing undergraduate students and getting to know the Board members has been an enjoyable and educational experience.”            

LeVon’s ultimate goal is to become a veterinarian who specializes in surgery and possibly pathology, and she feels the University has successfully prepared her to do so — and more — in life.


“UF has prepared me for the good and the bad sides of veterinary medicine by …  allowing me to take a wide variety of courses with topics like ethics, problem solving, case studies and much more. UF has also provided me with various opportunities to broaden my interests with undergraduate cancer cell research, clinical internships, general education classes, leadership opportunities with Residence Life and so much more,” said LeVon.  

LeVon is set to graduate in May 2010 with the skills she’s gained from UF and big aspirations for her future.  

“UF has taught me to continue to be open-minded about my future, work hard toward my dreams and never give up,” said LeVon. “I couldn’t have asked for a better undergraduate experience, and I will always look back fondly on my time at The University of Findlay.”
