Class of 2010, Pharmacy Major
Coming to The University of Findlay seemed like a natural choice for Samantha Blair ’10, pharmacy major. Although free pizza, pop and T-shirts are some of the perks Samantha enjoys on campus, her reasons for choosing Findlay include its many academic benefits.
“I chose The University of Findlay over other pharmacy schools because the classes were smaller, which allows for more one-on-one time with teachers. It’s amazing how the teachers push you to be successful, by offering extra help after class or even going as far as to give you their home phone numbers,” said Samantha.
Samantha also was pleased with how the pharmacy program at UF was designed. She noted that once she was accepted into the program, she was automatically accepted into the professional school, which is beneficial because it removes classmate rivalry and replaces it with helpfulness.
Samantha is a good student with a good work ethic, but she credits UF faculty for their help with her education.
“Dr. Bethany Henderson-Dean has made the greatest impact on me here at UF. I was in her class my freshman year, and she made me feel welcomed and like I belonged. She is a genuinely nice person who is willing to help me with anything class or non-class related,” said Samantha.

Blair has learned a lot about being a pharmacist during her internship at the Blanchard Valley Health Center in Findlay.

Samantha also has held an internship at the Blanchard Valley Health Center. There, her main duties were to prepare intravenous bags for inpatients, as well as medications for cancer patients, and deliver them daily to the nurses. She felt that her internship was beneficial because she learned through experience.
“I realized that there is more to being a pharmacist than just filling pills in a bottle. It is trustworthiness and dedication that makes a pharmacist succeed in her profession. By working at Blanchard Valley Health Center I have learned how to communicate with the nurses and doctors about patient care on a certain level that helps them gain my trust and believe in my credibility as a pharmacy intern,” commented Samantha.
Overall, Samantha is pleased with her experience at UF. Her advice to other students: “Work hard, and UF will help to do its part and teach you to be a professional in your field of choice.”
