Physical education and health education major
Hometown: McComb, Ohio
Sarah Schroeder, a
physical education
and
health education
major from McComb, Ohio, says she chose The University of Findlay for a number of reasons.
“I knew I wanted to
play college volleyball
and go to a school close to home where my family and friends could watch me play,” said Schroeder. “I also loved UF’s atmosphere and the small class sizes.”
As she looks toward graduation in December 2011, Schroeder says she made the right college selection for her.
“I love that Findlay is small enough that I see people that I know daily, but big enough that I see a new face every day. I don’t feel lost in the shuffle and I’m not just another face to my professors. They know me personally and want to help me succeed,” said Schroeder.

Schroeder was a member of the Lady Oilers
team for four years.
One professor who had a significant impact on Schroeder was Sharon Milligan, who retired from her position as the director of physical education in 2011.
“(Milligan) helped me on many occasions during my years at The University of Findlay. Her office door was always open,” said Schroeder. “Professor Milligan was not just a professor to me; she a role model, mentor and friend. I think that is part of what made her a great professor because she went the extra mile and developed a personal relationship with her students.”
In addition to volleyball, Schroeder was involved in Mortar Board Honor Society, Aristos Eklektos Honor Society and College Republicans during her time at the University. She also worked as a member of the Wellness Center staff at the Findlay Family YMCA.
“I have had great experiences through my involvement with UF organizations,” said Schroeder. “Through my involvement with the volleyball team, I learned how to manage my time, make decisions under pressure, and be a productive team member … Through Aristos Eklektos and Mortar Board I have had many opportunities to get involved with community service, and for that I am very thankful.”

students while student teaching at Riverdale High School.
Off campus, Schroeder has dedicated her time to teaching and coaching. She currently coaches seventh-grade girls’ basketball at McComb Middle School. This fall, she was a volunteer volleyball coach for McComb High School. She has also helped with volleyball camps and clinics in addition to an after-school program at Washington Intermediate School.
Schroeder says her experiences have helped shape her ability to succeed in the future.
“I think my combination of academic and athletic extra-curricular activities, in addition to the training I have received at The University of Findlay, will make me a better educator and coach,” said Schroeder.
