President’s Welcome Message
A university campus is a place of continual renewal. This fall, as we do every year, we begin again, welcoming new students, helping sophomores and juniors gain real-world experience in their career fields, and assisting seniors as they complete their final courses and make plans for their formal Commencement.
Summer was a time of planning and preparation at Findlay. We continued our progress on strategic planning, setting measurable goals with clear timelines in areas throughout the University.
Work has begun on our 42,000-square-foot addition to the Davis Street Building. This new construction will expand our strong programs in the sciences, pharmacy and other health professions. When completed in the summer of 2012, the addition will house high-technology classrooms and lecture halls, student lounges, eight cutting-edge science laboratories, and eight faculty offices.
We kicked off the year with our traditional orientation weekend, including a new-student service day when more than 600 students, faculty and staff volunteered at organizations throughout the area. UF fosters that spirit of service and giving to the community throughout each year as part of our commitment to equipping our students for meaningful lives and productive careers. We hope to beat last year’s total of 17,000 hours of UF service to our community. Also this academic year, we are implementing two new undergraduate majors: (1) positron emission tomography/computed tomography, an addition to our strong diagnostic imaging programs, and (2) sport and event management, an acknowledgment of the growth in the burgeoning services industry. On the graduate side, our health informatics graduate certificate program is moving toward expansion into a master's degree program.
Together, in this new year, we will articulate a clear definition of UFs distinctive qualities, the very qualities demonstrated every day on our campus. One of Findlay’s enduring strengths is helping its students to discover their own strengths, to become more than even they thought possible.
We welcome you to visit our beautiful, vibrant campus and learn who you will [be] … at The University of Findlay.
