Welcome
Welcome to The University of Findlay’s
FINANCE
Homepage.
Finance majors learn and study how to make financial decisions for individuals or business enterprises. Financial decisions include how businesses raise, spend and invest capital; how individuals or firms allocate their resources among varying investment alternatives over time; and how financial markets function. The key concern of finance is not making financial decisions themselves, but rather how to make such decisions so that they create value for individuals, firms, or their investors.
The finance curriculum at The University of Findlay is designed to provide both a working understanding of the financial decision-making process, as well as insight into how those financial decisions maximize value for individuals or firms by optimizing the balance between risk and return pertaining to the decisions. In particular, our approach to teaching Finance at The University of Findlay places great emphasis on experiential learning and “real world” application of financial theories related to financial decision makings. Analytical proficiency, familiarity with financial analysis software and information processing tools, and the use of “hands-on,” applied cases and exercises focused on creating value through financial decision making are features of the Finance program at The University of Findlay.
Listed below are the courses that are illustrative of the breadth of topics you are likely to experience were you to major in Finance at The University of Findlay.
Students who are aiming for a career in business and who appreciate numbers, analysis, logical thinking and "real world" applications will appreciate this major. Finance graduates enjoy jobs that are involved in major tactical and strategic decisions for their organizations. The types of positions finance majors might qualify for include but are not limited to the following: Chief Financial Officer (CFO), treasurer, security analyst or broker, credit manager, financial consultant or advisor, financial analyst, money manager, financial planner, banker, lending officer, portfolio manager, investment strategist, financial manager. Majors of this program are highly recommended to pursue a graduate degree since “many employers now seek graduates with a master's degree, preferably in business administration, finance, or economics” (Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-2011 Edition, http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos010.htm).
