Course Description:          

This course covers the development of basic concepts and principles in the field of marketing. The fundamentals of the marketing mix and marketing's role in the community, company, and economy are

   
Relationship to the Conceptual Framework: The College of Business aims to provide our students with a broad foundation in the fundamental principles of business administration. Our contribution is as a part of a liberally based education which imparts both breadth and depth:
  • a broad exposure to all realms of human thought which forms the beginning of a life-long learning process
  • a developed expertise within an area, providing an economic base for  a future productive life  
   
Course Objectives:
  • Define the 4p’s in marketing and their role in today’s environment
  • Identify the characteristics of demographic and psychographic data
  • Evaluate BEV from several perspectives
  • Examine the different types of customer value
  • Differentiate the types of CRM techniques
  • Recall the different types of laws that impact marketing
  • Compare the types of marketing strategies used by organizations
  • Examine the different types of cultural marketing
  • Recognize how marketers segment by customer behavior

Course Policies and Practices   All assignments and other work must be typed, handwritten assignments will not be accepted.. No fault attendance policy: Miss four classes - no penalty. Over four will incur a deduction of 10 points off your total points and anything over six are an additional two/miss; two or less will add 5 points and perfect attendance an additional five points. Make-up exams must be scheduled at least two days in advance and the professor reserves the right to give an alternate test and/or test questions.

Course and Instructor Evaluation Summative per UF requirements
   
Additional Information Class cancellation by the instructor will be made at least two hours prior to the class meeting in one of the following venues: Blackboard posting, classroom, and email.  In addition, a notice of cancellation will be posted in the classroom prior to the class meeting.  It is the responsibility of the student to check for updated information regarding class meetings.
    
Cell phone policy: Cell phones must be turned off during class.  If your cell phone or other electronic device rings, plays music, vibrates or makes any other noise, you will teach the next chapter in the text.   This includes writing an outline of the chapter to be discussed.  The same rule applies to text messaging during class.  From the second time on, there will be a reduction of 3 points off of your total points.  If there is an emergency or other serious need for you to get a call during class, please let me know at the beginning of class. In addition, using a computer in-class is not permitted without the permission of the instructor.  Newspapers are to be put away unless we are doing research.

Late work is subject to a 5% penalty per day; after one week, it is a 20% penalty.

Papers are 50, tests (TBD), other in-class points are awarded, etc. 

If you are absent when an in-class assignment is done, you must complete it within one week to get credit.
 
Depending on class size, you will be required to market a product that I bring into class. 
   
Paper requirements (topic to be determined): Formatting requirements for paper:
  • Typed Double-spaced; no cover page
  • 1 inch margins; 12 font in Times New Roman or Arial
  • Must have a minimum of three references besides your text
  • 5-6 pages excluding reference page, use APA or MLA style citing in your paper and for reference page).  State the style of referencing or APA will be assumed.
