College of Business
As the dean of the College of Business at the University of Findlay, I want to welcome you to our website. Our hope is that you will find all the helpful information you need to understand the philosophy and design of our various academic programs. As evidenced by our membership in the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), the quality business programs offered by the College of Business at UF emphasize experiential or active learning to enhance student development of managerial competencies that are valuable in achieving above-average performance and career success. Among these competencies are communications skills (both written and verbal), critical thinking, and computing skills. But, in addition, we seek to help our students develop a truly global perspective, because business today is global in nature. The College of Business offers opportunities for many different types of experiential learning including internships and cooperative programs with major local firms, such as Cooper Tire & Rubber Co., Marathon Petroleum Company and Whirlpool Corporation. In addition, students have opportunities to work on real business problems by working on projects in various classes and taking part in student organizations that are actively engaged in the business community.Perhaps the most important focus of the University and the College is upon students. It is my pleasure to work with a group of faculty whose goal is to inspire and guide students as they pursue their learning objectives and to instill in them a lifelong quest for knowledge. The faculty has an open door policy and meets with students on a regular basis to help them solve problems and complete assignments. In recognition of the emphasis we put on effective teaching and learning, three of our faculty (Dr. Josephine Kershaw, Dr. Nabarun Ghose and Professor Shiv Gupta) have recently been recognized for their outstanding teaching effectiveness. All three have been awarded the ACBSP's Teaching Excellence Award for Region Four (the Great Lakes Region) and Dr. Kershaw was the selected recipient of the International Teaching Excellence Award in 2011. There are no other universities in the entire Great Lakes region to have three Teaching Excellence Award winners on their faculty, including an International Teaching Excellence Award winner.
Overall, the University offers a top-notch program in business designed to be user friendly and student centered. Come and check us out.
