Deadlines and Information

Theme
To accomplish educational reform and continuous improvement, teachers and administrators must be leaders, catalysts causing good things to happen in classrooms. Thus, the theme of the Master of Arts in Education program at The University of Findlay is “Educational Leadership." The leadership core curriculum seeks to integrate the following:
  • the conceptual bases of teaching;
  • a historical perspective of teaching;
  • interpersonal skills and knowledge for effective leadership;
  • inquiry into present practices, issues and shortcomings of the profession;  scientifically-based research;
  • best practices;
  • action research; and ways to work effectively with students, parents, and the community.

Mission and Objectives
The basic mission of the Master of Arts in Education is to enhance the development of teachers, administrators, and human resource development specialists so that they are prepared to:

  1. Examine and develop their own significant role as educational leaders;
  2. Become aware of the variety of family, social service, community, and business resources available to educators and develop collaborative plans and/or training materials to provide for perceived needs;
  3. Foster enhanced interpersonal skills;
  4. Develop techniques for managing change;
  5. Reflect on instructional trends, methods and models in a teaching area of choice, selecting those most appropriate for the needs of their student population; and
  6. Experience the role of educator as researcher.
