Field and Clinical Experiences
The Middle Childhood Program provides field experiences during each level of your education course work. In EDUC 161 and EDFI 503, you will have your first field experiences. In EDUC 265, which is in sophomore block, you will begin planning lessons and teaching within your content area. During your junior year or post-baccalaureate methods classes, you will do "mini" student teaching. Prior to applying for licensure, you must complete course work and pass the Praxis II tests in both content areas. Your culminating field experience is sixteen-weeks of student teaching. You will student teach in each of your two content areas. As you complete your student teaching, you are also responsible for the final production of your electronic Portfolio.
Applications may be obtained from and should be returned to Mrs. Connie Leatherman, Director of Field Placement.
If you plan to student teach in a fall semester, apply by April 1. If you plan to student teach in a spring semester, apply by November 1. No student teaching placements are available during summer semesters.
Your student teaching application, personal data sheet and log sheets are located in the Student Resources section of the College of Education home page.
