UF Intervention Specialist Candidates involved in the transition to work partnership

The University of Findlay is committed to excellence in preparing students for a career in teaching. Within Intervention Specialist coursework, a unique partnership exists between The University of Findlay and Findlay City Schools to provide preservice teachers with an opportunity to mentor high school sophomores who are exploring the world of work at various locations on the university campus.

Findlay High School student working on campus

This year students are working as groundskeepers, housekeepers, woodworkers, clerical and data entry specialists, prep cooks and health control inspectors, glass cleaners in the ice arena, and in retail sales. The program runs for ten weeks during the fall semester. Twice weekly, Findlay High School students are bused to campus to meet with their UF mentors at assigned job sites. The UF students meet with the high school students' parents at the beginning of the program and write a transition plan for their high school students at the conclusion of the experience. This program enables UF students to develop skills as job coaches, to understand the needs of high school students who are exploring career choices, and to work collaboratively with students, high school teachers, and university supervisors in a real life setting. This experience provides positive outcomes for all participants and continues to draw volunteers from across the campus each year.

If you would like more information about the Intervention Specialist program or would like to map out your program, you need to contact Dr. Mary Cameron, who is the Director of the Intervention Specialist program. She can look at your transcripts if you are a transfer student and set you on the correct path to licensure.
