Rotation of Courses
 
With careful planning, you can use some of your general education and other required courses to meet course requirements for the Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement. It is best to work with your adviser to map this out. The required courses in each content area are listed below:

Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement in Language Arts
You must pass the Praxis II Elementary Education: Content Knowledge Test (#0014) or the Middle Childhood Language Arts Test (#10049) and must pass, with a grade of "C" or higher, the following combination of courses:
  • EDUC 415: Content Area Reading* (3 hours) and either
  • EDUC 311: Children's and Early Adolescent Literature (3 hours or
  • ENGL 341: Young Adult Literature (3 semester hours).
*Note: All Middle Childhood candidates are required to take a 12-hour core of reading courses, which includes EDUC 415.

Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement in Mathematics
You must pass the Praxis II Elementary Education: Content Knowledge Test (#0014) or the Middle Childhood Mathematics Test (#20069) and must pass, with a grade of "C" or higher, the following combination of courses:  
  • MATH 315: Math for Middle Childhood I (3 hours)         
  • MATH 316: Math for Middle childhood II (3 hours).  

Middle Childhood Candidates Doing Hands-On Math

Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement in Science
You must pass the Praxis II Elementary Education: Content Knowledge Test (#0014) or the Middle Childhood Science Test (#10438) and must pass, with a grade of "C" or higher, the following courses:       

  • BIOL 138: Environmental Studies (3 hours)       
  • GEOL 205: Surficial Earth Systems (3 hours).  

Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement in Social Studies
You must pass the Praxis II Elementary Education: Content Knowledge Test (#0014) or the Middle Childhood Social Studies Test (#20089) and must pass, with a grade of "C" or higher, the following combination of courses:        

  • HIST 390: Ohio History (3 hours) and either        
  • GEOG 101: Economic Geography (3 hours) or        
  • GEOG 200: Human Geography (3 hours).
