The Human Body: A Case By Case Exploration

Course Description
Are you interested in learning more about the human body through hands-on lab experiences? In this Summer Honors Institute, funded by the Ohio Department of Education, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a challenging exploration of topics related to human body systems, health and wellness. Each day is structured around patient cases which provide a framework for in-depth study of gross anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology through lecture, human cadaver dissection, laboratory activities and exploration of related tests, measures and interventions.

Each day of the 4-day camp is centered on different body systems and associated patient cases as follows:

Day 1 - Musculoskeletal System: Upper Extremity
Day 2 - Musculoskeletal System: Lower Extremity
Day 3 - Nervous System: Central and Peripheral
Day 4 - Cardiopulmonary System

Who is Eligible?
Students who are Ohio residents, meet the criteria for identification as a gifted student (as described in Ohio Administrative Code 3301-51-15), and have completed 9th or 10th grade are eligible to apply.

How do I Apply?
Students interested in applying should complete and return the Application Form and signed Student Eligibility Confirmation Form provided below:

Please send the above forms to: Dr. Lisa Dutton, College of Health Professions, The University of Findlay, 1000 N. Main St., Findlay, OH  45840. To be considered for participation, application forms should be submitted by April 13, 2007. Applications received after this date will be considered on a space-available basis. Enrollment is limited and participants who apply by April 13th will be notified of their acceptance status by April 27, 2007.

What will it Cost?
There is no cost for students who wish to commute to the Institute; lunch is provided. The cost for residential students is $148.76. This covers four days and nights of room, board, activities and supervision.

Full and partial scholarships are available. If a scholarship is requested, the student's parents or guardians should submit the Residential Financial Aid Application Form and supporting documents with the Committment to Attend Form by May 11, 2007. These documents are submitted after notification of acceptance to the Institute.
