Grant Activities

Ergonomics
  Assistant Professor Laura
Schmelzer delivered the occupational therapy content for  the initial grant. If the latest proposal is accepted, Assistant Professor Rosalie M. King will represent occupational therapy.

The Susan B. Harwood Ergonomic Training Program was an interdisciplinary approach to help automobile parts manufacturing companies reduce work risk factors for their employees, increase productivity, and save money. This program, funded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration, began in 2005. Participating disciplines included occupational and physical therapy and the School of Environmental and Emergency Management. Occupational therapy’s role was to deliver information regarding common upper and lower body/lumbar work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD) as well as provide insight into common psychosocial factors that are affected by WMSD. In spring of 2008 another grant proposal was submitted, this time targeting ergonomics in foundries. If accepted, Assistant professor Rosalie M. King will be representing occuptional therapy in delivering the program.
