Program Requirements

Minimum Program Admission Requirements:

At a minimum, in order to be eligible for admission into the Physician Assistant Program at The University of Findlay, the applicant must fulfill all the following requirements:
  1. Have a bachelor's degree earned an accredited university either at the time of application or prior to matriculation into the program.
  2. Have an overall grade point average of 3.0 out of 4.0 for all college or university work completed.
  3. Have completed a minimum of 500 hours of healthcare experience either at the time of application or prior to matriculation into the program. (Recommended Shadowing)
  4. Have completed the Specific Prerequisite Courses with no final grade in any course less than a "C" either at the time of application or prior to matriculation into the program.
Those applicants who have all requirements fulfilled at the time of application will be given priority over those who still have requirements left to complete.

Those applicants still needing to complete prerequisite courses or healthcare experience hours are still eligible for admission.


Admissions Process Overview:

Entry into the Physician Assistant Program at The University of Findlay is a competitive process that involves multiple steps:
  • Submitting an application for admissions to a centralized application service (Centralized Application Service for Physician Assistants CASPA)
  • Submitting a supplemental application that is specific to the Findlay PA program
  • Payment of certain fees associated with the application and admission process
  • Successfully completing all other requirements for admission as detailed below

Please note: The University of Findlay PA Program does not accept any type of Advanced Placement and/or Transfers into the PA Program.

Technical Standards
All applicants and enrolled students must meet or exceed the technical standards which describe the expectations and abilities considered essential in order to achieve the level of competency required for graduation and ultimately practice as a physician assistant. By clearly identifying these key attributes it is anticipated that persons with disabilities will have increased opportunities while maintaining the expectation that all students achieve the goals of the Program.

The University of Findlay Physician Assistant Program only accepts applications through CASPA. All official post-secondary transcripts must be sent to both CASPA and The University of Findlay. The University of Findlay PA Program requires a supplemental application (See Application Instructions).

A personal interview will be granted to those applicants who are deemed to be the most highly qualified for a position in the class.

For entry into the Physician Assistant Program applicants must meet or exceed the following requirements:

  1. Submit an application and all supporting documents and fees to the Central Application Service Physician Assistant (CASPA ).
    • Consult the CASPA website for current fee schedule
  2. Submit a completed Supplemental PA Program Application along with all required supporting documents and a $50 non-refundable Supplemental Application fee and the following supporting document:
    • Current Résumé
    • Health Care Experience Form  updating health care experience obtained since submitting CASPA application
      • Must be used to document remainder of 500 hour minimum required hours not completed at time of CASPA application
    • Personal essay statement 
    • If the letters of recommendation submitted to CASPA do not meet The University of Findlay Physician Assistant Program’s specific requirements, the applicant must include completed Letter of Recommendation Forms with any letters attached that do comply with the program’s requirements
    • The Supplemental Application will be automatically sent to the applicant electronically after the program receives the CASPA application
  3. Return a Supplemental Application if you have completed all of our Program Requirements or if you will meet all of the requirements prior to the August start date.
    • The Supplemental Application and all required documents and fees must be returned to the program office no later than two weeks after the applicant receives it
    • The applicants who meet the requirements at the time of CASPA application and who have the highest qualifications will be prioritized accordingly for interview selection
  4. Have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized accredited institution.
  5. Have submitted all required documentation, application materials, and fees to CASPA, The University of Findlay, and to The University of Findlay Physician Assistant Program.
  6. Successfully complete all program specific prerequisites
    • Courses successfully completed within the last five years are recognized as ideal
    • Courses completed 10 or more years prior to application to the program exceed program statutory limits 
    • Courses that fall within the ten or more year limit include
      • Biology
      • Chemistry
      • Physics 
      • Medical terminology
    • Courses taken more than 10 years ago should be repeated or a prospective applicant may challenge the course content to demonstrate a minimum proficiency in a subject by taking  a University of Findlay proficiency exam (if available) and scoring ≥80% or at the discretion of the Program Director
  7. Have a minimum overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) on a 4.0(A) scale and no grade lower than 2.0 (C) for any of the program specific prerequisite courses
  8. Any coursework in progress after submission of the CASPA application must be completed with a “C” or higher and maintain the required minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in order to be eligible for admission into the program  
  9. Have a minimum of 500 hours of health care experience  
    • May include volunteer and/or paid health care experiences, or shadowing
    • It must occur in an area in which patient care is being delivered
    • While any applicant who meets the minimum number of hours is eligible for admission, the amount and type of health care experience will be used in the decision making process for admission
    • Health care experiences are reported to CASPA Hours completed after submitting the CASPA application are submitted directly to the PA program
  10. If not a U.S. citizen, a minimum score as listed below on one of the TOEFL exams or the IELTS:
    • 600 on a verified paper-based (PBT) Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
    • 100 on a verified Internet-based (IBT) 
      • (minimums of 25 in speaking and 25 in writing)
    • 250 on a verified computer-based (CBT) OR
    • 7.0 overall minimum band score on an International English Testing System (IELTS)
  11. Additionally if you are not a U.S. citizen or if you have non-U.S. school transcripts The UF International Office requires specific documentation.
  12. Contact International Admissions at 800-472-9502 ext 4558  http://www.findlay.edu/admissions/info/international/default.htm.
  13. Submit a signed form acknowledging your ability to meet technical standards.
    • This form will be made available to all applicants as part of the Supplemental Application process
  14. Provide evidence of a current physical examination including documentation of immunizations due at the time of matriculation into the PA program.  The health form will be provided after acceptance into the program.
  15. Provide evidence of health care insurance at the time of matriculation into the PA program.
  16. Participate in the program interview (invitation only) and be recommended for admission by the Program Interview and Admission Committee (IAC).
  17. Undergo a background check prior to matriculation. 
    • Specific instructions concerning this requirement will be provided upon acceptance into the MPA Program

To be eligible to be interviewed for the Physician Assistant Program the applicant must have met all of the above requirements and all application materials and fees must have been received by the program office by the published deadline.
