Traditional Application Criteria
  1. Minimum overall and science grade point average of 3.0 (on a four point scale).  Courses with a grade below a “C-” will not transfer but will be included in the grade point average. 
  2. Evidence of having completed 100 hours of observation in two different physical therapy settings with a physical therapist.  Forms must be received by December 31st of the year prior to matriculation. A print copy of the observation form can be obtained from PTCAS. 
  3. Completion of the required liberal arts prerequisites, program prerequisites and competencies prior to beginning the professional program.
  4. Completion of all application materials for The University of Findlay and the Physical Therapy Program.  

PREREQUISITES
Liberal Arts Prerequisites: Includes course work in Religion or Philosophy, Fine Arts, Humanities, Mathematics, Social Science, Foreign Language/Culture, English, Wellness and electives.  Please refer to the University Catalog for details.

University of Findlay Competencies: Writing - ENGL 106 Computer Science - CSCI 150 or exam Speech - COMM 110 or 211 or 312 or exam Reading   

Program Prerequisites:
*Human Anatomy and Physiology (8 hours) *Basic Physics (8 hours) *General Chemistry (8 hours) *Kinesiology (3 hours) *Exercise Physiology (3 hours) *Elementary Statistics (3 hours) Psychology (9 hours - including General, Developmental and Abnormal Psychology) Medical Terminology (3 hours) Introduction to Health Professions (1 hour)


*These are the courses used to compute the science gpa. 

University of Findlay students must have completed five of these nine science courses prior to submitting the application.  Beginning Fall 2009 transfer students must have completed six of nine program prerequisite science courses prior to application.  For Fall 2008, transfer students must have completed six of the nine science prerequisites by the end of Fall Semester 2008.  However, transfer students must submit verification of course work to the PT office by 1/1/09 with final transcripts to the Graduate office at the end of Spring Term 2009.

APPLICATION PROCESS
The Department of Physical Therapy at The University of Findlay participates in the new Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service, known as PTCAS. Applicants applying to the entry-level professional physical therapist program for the 2009 entering class will apply online using the PTCAS application. The PT program application deadline is December 1, 2008. To create a PTCAS application account and learn more about the process, please visit the PTCAS web site at www.ptcas.org.

Once your materials are received from PTCAS applicants will be asked to submit a non-refundable application fee of $25.00 in check or money order made payable to The University of Findlay. This fee is used to process your supplemental materials.  Remember that you are required to have official college and university transcripts to: Graduate and Professional Studies, The University of Findlay, 1000 North Main Street, Findlay, Ohio 45840.

SELECTION OF APPLICANTS

A number of factors are considered during the selection process.  Categories such as grades, program preparation, involvement in outside activities, service activities, an understanding of the profession, recommendations, communication skills and leadership ability are considered.  Students who are currently enrolled at The University of Findlay are given special consideration.   While the application criteria serve as general guidelines, final decisions are based on review of the student's entire record.  

DEADLINES
Applications will be available after September 1.  All applications must be submitted to PTCAS by December 1.  The Admission Committee will review applications after December 15.  All complete applications will be considered for review.  Applicants will be notified of the admissions decision after February 15.  All decisions of the Admissions Committee are final.  

Admission to The University of Findlay does not guarantee admission to the Physical Therapy Program. The applicant is responsible for submitting all required materials.
