Scintillating News 2006

The NMI August 2005 Class started the didactic portion of the program on August 29, 2005 and completed it on December 16, 2005. The class started with 47 students and 46 students went on to clinical training. That is a 98% completion rate for the didactic portion of the program for the August 2005 Class.

33% of the students that completed the didactic portion of the program and went on to clinicals, did so with at least a 3.5 grade point average for the Fall 2005 semester. Students who achieve a grade point average of at least 3.50 while taking at least 12 semester hours of graded course work are named to the UF Dean's List for that semester. We are very proud of the students' accomplishments.

NMI is very happy to announce that three of our students have received a Paul Cole Scholarship this year.  This is a very big achievement for them and one of which we are proud.  There are very few of these awarded nationwide.  The Society of Nuclear Medicine Technologist Section (SNMTS) reported to me that there were 87 applicants and 33 scholarships were awarded this year.  You can access the Society of Nuclear Medicine web site (www.snm.org) for previous recipients and towards the end of the month they hope to have a list of this year’s awards on the site.

The Paul Cole Scholarship was started in 1986 and was named in memory of Paul Cole, CNMT, who served as President of the SNMTS and passed away while serving. He was known to be a champion of student education.  The scholarship is funded by the Education and Research Foundation of the Society of Nuclear Medicine.

Students wishing to apply for the Paul Cole Scholarship, must demonstrate financial need, be enrolled or accepted in an institution accredited through the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT) and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale or a "B" average in a nuclear medicine technology core curriculum.  The selection process is performed by the SNMTS Scholarship Committee that is appointed by the SNMTS Executive Board.  The applicant's personal and institutional information is blinded when reviewed by the committee to ensure unbiased evaluation.
