Master's Degree

Our master of arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) established in 1989, and serves domestic and international students from around the world.  

We provide an intensive curriculum that will prepare classroom teachers and specialists to critically analyze and implement programs for English language learners.
  • Program Requirements (36 credit hours):
    • BLMC 500: Methods & Materials K-12
    • BLMC 501: Methods & Materials Adult Learner
    • BLMC 510: Linguistics
    • BLMC 520: Second Language Acquisition
    • BLMC 535: Assessment of the LEP Student
    • BLMC 540: Advanced Linguistics
    • BLMC 545: English Grammar
    • BLMC 560: Sociolinguistics
    • BLMC 600: Thesis
    • Also 9 additional credits worth of electives

MA TESOL/Bilingual Education with Endorsement

MA TESOL Endorsement (21 credit hours)
Candidates must hold a valid Ohio Teaching license or either: 1) be in the process completing their licensing process; or 2) be in the process of transferring a reciprocity state license into an Ohio license. 

In addition to the MA TESOL program requirements students must take BLMC599: ESL Teaching Practicum; and pass the Praxis II Exam as required by the State of Ohio.
