Gerontology

Gerontology
The College of Liberal Arts offers a minor/certificate in Gerontology.  Gerontology is the study of the process of aging.  This is an interdisciplinary program that examines the physical, social, and psychological aspects of growing older in the 21th Century.  As our nation ages, issues of health care, marketing, and social services need to address the growing older population in the USA.  This minor serves as a valuable addition to many majors who will be working with this population.

This program was intentional created as a certificate/minor in order to encourage those persons already working in a field that serves the aging population.  The certificate can be earned independent of any other courses at the university.  People with real world experience are a valuable asset to this program and are strongly encouraged to consider this addition to their education.

To complete this minor/certificate program, students are required to complete 21 semester hours.  However, many of the required courses are also accepted as meeting the General Education requirements and there is also latitude in selecting electives that are in the student's major area of study.
