To receive your bachelor of arts degree from The University of Findlay, you must also complete BA/Graduation and Degree Requirements in addition to your art curriculum.
A major in art management consists of 17 courses including, ART 110, 111, 205, 210 or 211, 226, 227, 228, 229, and 321; ACCT 220 and 221; BUAD 150, 240, and 321; ECON 200 and 201; and MRKT 326.
A major in children's book illustration consists of 14 courses including ART 110, 205, 210, 211, 213 or 216, 225, 228, 229, 320, 321, 328, 495; EDUC 311 and 495.
A major in graphic communication consists of 17 courses including ART 110, 205, 210 or 211, 213 or 216, 250, 305, 314, 321, 375, 405, 420, 455, 495; ENGL 260; CSCI 270; MRKT 326; and COMM 315.
A major in multi-age visual arts (Age 3 - Grade 12) consists of 16 courses in the discipline: ART 110, 111, 205, 210, 211, 213 or 216, 225, 226, 227, 228, 229, 320, 321, 420, and 455; plus one of the following: ART 313, 335, 345, 355, or 365. Additionally, requirements for State of Ohio licensure must be fulfilled. See the College of Education for details.
A major in studio art consists of 16 courses in the discipline:
ART 110, 111, 210, 211, 213 or 216, 225, 226, 227, 228, 229, 320, 321, 420, 455, and 495; plus one of the following courses: ART 313, 335, 345, 355, or 365.
Art majors with an emphasis in industrial design (product development track), industrial design (special effects track), interior design, media arts and animation, or photography who are approved to pursue these emphases would attend an Art Institute campus during their junior or senior year and earn the equivalent of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours). These emphases require 54 hours taken in Art (24 at The University of Findlay and 30 at an Art Institute campus.) The coursework at Findlay is ART 110; 210 or 211; one of the following 205, 213, 216, 228, or 229; 320; 321; 420; 455; and three upper-level art elective hours. The courses at an Art Institute campus would taken over three or four quarters with a customized schedule.
Art-Industrial Design (Product Development Track) Emphasis
Sample courses include: Theory and Development of Form; Product Design; Modelmaking; Transportation Design; Architectural Modelmaking.
Art-Industrial Design Technology (Special Effects Track) Emphasis
Sample courses include: Human and Animal Anatomy; Basic F/X Make-up; Lifecast/Foam; Mechanical Masks I; Mechanical Creatures I; Multi-Piece Prosthetics.
Art-Interior Design Emphasis
Sample courses include: Basics of Interior Design; Space Planning; History of Furniture; Materials and Specifications; Environmental Design; Multicultural/Global Design.
Art-Media Arts and Animation Emphasis
Sample courses include: Character and Object Animation; History of Animation; Computer 3D Modeling and Animation; 2D Animation; 3D Character Animation; Web Animation.
Art-Photography
Sample courses include: Color Theory; Studio Photography; News Photography; Portraiture; Magazine Photography; Business of Photography; Photography Portfolio.
General Requirements for Art Majors
Seniors are required to present a one-person show or be represented in a senior group exhibit in a University gallery.
Most studio courses are managed in such a way that students are expected to provide their own materials. More exact cost information is found in specific course syllabi. All students enrolled in studio art courses are strongly encouraged to submit work for judging at the annual student exhibit. The art faculty retains the right to keep and reproduce the works of students for its permanent collection.
A minor in art consists of 24 semester hours taken in the following courses: ART 110, 210 or 211, 226, 227, 228, 229, 320, and 321.
A minor in art history consists of 15 semester hours taken in the following courses: ART 320, 321, 395 (six hours; two courses on different topics), and 420.
A minor in graphic communication consists of 24 semester hours taken in the following courses: ART 110, 205, 250, 305, 314, 321, 375, and 405.
