Programs of Study
The University of Findlay Art Program offers majors in art, graphic design, children’s book illustration, multi-age visual arts, and art management. You may also choose to minor in art, art history, graphic design or photography.
Majors
Art
If you are seeking a traditional career in art, this major provides a comprehensive curriculum that focuses on studio practice and art history. You will choose an area of focus in ceramics, painting, sculpture, printmaking, drawing or photography and develop work for your senior exhibition.
Art Management
Our art management major offers a combination of studio and art history experience along with course work in business administration, accounting, economics and marketing. This major prepares you for administrative positions related to galleries, museums and art centers.
Children’s Book Illustration
If you are interested in pursuing a career in the field of illustration, you will enjoy first-hand access to The University of Findlay’s Mazza Museum of International Art from Picture Books. The Mazza Museum is the first and largest teaching museum dedicated to literacy and the art of children’s picture books. This major provides a curriculum that focuses on two-dimensional studies and their application in the area of illustration. You will work with the Mazza Museum and apply your skills in developing a fully illustrated children’s book.
Graphic Design
Our graphic design major provides a curriculum focused on skills specific to the field of design such as digital imaging, typography, Web design and commercial design while also integrating art history and two-dimensional studio art. You will complete individualized, advanced-level work for your senior exhibition.
Multi-Age Visual Arts
As an education major in multi-age visual arts, you will engage in both the education curriculum and art curriculum. In art, you will gain experiences in art history as well as in a wide range of studio areas in order to fully prepare you for a career in teaching. You will develop a comprehensive body of work for your senior exhibition.
Minors
Art
Our art minor offers a combination of studio courses, including drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking and painting along with art history.
Art History
If you have an academic interest in art, the art history minor is for you. You will learn to analyze, interpret and decode works of visual art. You will gain skills related to understanding and interpreting visual culture and learn to explore and discover the world through a history of its art.
Graphic Design
Our graphic design minor offers a variety of design courses including typography, imaging and manipulation, web site design, and introductory and advanced graphic design.
Photography
Our photography minor offers a combination of traditional black and white photography, digital photography, art history and digital imaging.
