Communication
 
The hands-on nature of the UF communication program
has brought many successes to students and to the
program.

  • Communication program acclaimed by Higher Learning Commission for its senior assessment class, which asks seniors to produce capstone project, portfolio and presentation

  • The Pulse, the campus newspaper, has won awards from the Ohio Newspaper Association for news coverage, in-depth reporting, original columns and community service reporting. These are statewide awards earned in competition with professional weekly newspaper from around Ohio.

  • Communication Department has a significant financial award for majors with high academic achievement and service to the campus community

  • Communication Department faculty member Diana Montague receives Founders Teaching Excellence award

  • Communication Department faculty member Diana Montague receives the David L. Allen teaching excellence award

  • UF student media--WLFC-FM and the Pulse--provide blanket coverage of former President Bill Clinton's 2008 visit to the University. Their online coverage, released shortly after Clinton's speech, received praise from other media outlets.

  • Communication faculty members earn “Best Panel” at Central States Communication Association for presentations on innovative curriculum
  • UFTV airs live simulcast political forum: The 2007 Findlay Mayoral Forum was produced by communication students and simulcast over WLFC-FM, WFIN-AM and covered by northwest Ohio print, online and television outlets. UF media also presents the 2008 Candidate's Forum, featuring those running for countywide office.
  • UF’s award-winning chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America attracts national recognition in chapter development and community service

  • Public relations students at UF receive an $8,000 grant from a national organization to research, create and disseminate a non-smoking campaign around campus

  • Students develop solid skills designing PR campaigns for real-life clients, including the Arts Partnership, Coalition for a Smoke-free Hancock County, The Findlay Business Exchange Group, Campfire USA and Habitat for Humanity

  • Students earn National Communicators’ honorable mention and a grant from Ohio Campus Compact for campaigns they develop and implement

  • PRSSA students learn first-hand about event planning and earned the university’s “Model Program” award for its annual “Deck the Trees” event
  • Students receive internships at The Ohio News Network, WTAM-AM in Cleveland, Fox 25 in Cincinnati, Clear Channel Radio, the State House in Columbus, Marathon/Ashland Petroleum, Cooper Tire and Rubber, Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Lakeland Eye Surgeons and numerous other profit and non-profit agencies
