Scholarships - English majors are also eligible for numerous scholarships, including the following:

Helen O. Reimund Scholarship – Awarded to students majoring in English, based on financial need and overall GPA.
Michael Murphy Scholarship – Awarded to students earning certification to teach with an emphasis in English.
Warner-Capra Scholarship – Available to students majoring in English or communication with a GPA of 3.3 or better and selected by the English faculty.
Tim Trask Scholarship – Awarded to students in either English or philosophy with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
John Hutson Scholarship – Available to English majors, this scholarship is awarded to students majoring in the humanities who also have a concentration in the sciences.
Leslie & Eva Baker Scholarship – Available to students in a service area, such as the teaching of English and awarded on the basis of need and GPA.

Awards - The English program also offers annual awards, including the R.C. Gebhardt Award for outstanding writing produced in first-year writing courses, the R.L. Gebhardt Award for a promising English major who does exceptional work in the freshman or sophomore year and the G.G. Bruer Award for outstanding creative writers. Students graduating with at least a GPA of 3.7 in the English major and 3.5 overall may also receive Honors in English upon recommendation of the English faculty.
