Program Info

Student Organizations

In addition to the hands-on experience you will gain in your courses, the English program provides a number of activities that are both fun and useful in preparing you for potential careers. English students contribute to, edit and produce the Envoy, the University’s literary magazine. Contributors share their work through publication and public readings. You may also participate in the Writers Club or write for The Pulse, the University’s newspaper. Each year, visiting writers give a reading of their works and collaborate with English students.

Events throughout the year provide opportunities for you to share your interests in literature, writing and language with others in the community, including local teachers and schools. Other opportunities allow for practical training and include working as an intern, attending professional conferences and workshops, and writing for the University's Writing Center. Such experiences help make you more attractive to graduate schools as well as prospective employers. Based in part on such training, recent graduates of our program have received scholarships to pursue graduate studies.
