The Forensic Science Program at The University of Findlay boasts a very
active and energetic Forensic Science and Criminal Justice Club.
Through participation in the club you will have the opportunity to
experience dimensions of the criminal justice system not always
possible through traditional classroom instruction. Past activities
include ride-alongs with local police agencies, firearm safety
instruction, active participation in real-life law enforcement
scenarios through utilization of Firearm Training Simulators, and
stimulating conversations with professionals and experts in the
criminal justice field. Additionally, club members tour male and female
prisons/jails, visit the Bureau of Criminal Justice Investigation, and
participate in recreational activities such as paint-balling.
Last
year the club organized a trip to Washington D.C. The
itinerary for this trip included a tour of the FBI academy, a personal
visit with Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Conner, a tour of
the White House, and a meeting with congressional representative
Mike Oxley. Additional activities included trips to Arlington
Cemetery, Peace Officers Memorial, Spy Museum, and other
significant monuments and historical sites.
Another exciting
event that the forensic science/criminal justice club participates in
annually is Fear Factor. This event promotes friendly competition
between various clubs on campus in diverse actives including
rescuing dummies from simulated hazardous situations, analytical
computer games, relay races with greased watermelons in swimming
pools, and tunnel races. The forensic science/criminal justice club
takes great pride in having won the championship in the inaugural year
of Fear Factor. In addition to visiting exciting places, meeting
intriguing professionals, and participating in challenging events,
the club provides you with the opportunity to develop leadership
skills.
While faculty advisors oversee club activities,
students are the engines behind its success. Students hold various
positions within the club including president, vice president,
treasurer, sergeant at arms, secretary, and historian. Such experiences
are great resume builders. The club is further evidence of our
program’s commitment to providing students with experiential activities
to complement their educational development.
