Advising

Admission Information

In order to best prepare students for their undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Findlay, the IELP will implement the following policies beginning spring 2011.

Policy One
Students, who wish to study in the IELP, may present an Internet-based TOEFL of a 32 (ibt) or complete the IELP online writing test before an I-20 is issued.  Students who demonstrate minimal proficiency on the exam (the ability to write a cohesive paragraph) will be given conditional admission into the University of Findlay.

Please note the IELP online writing exam will not be used for placement or admission into undergraduate or graduate programs at the University of Findlay.

Policy Two
Students must complete the IELP placement exam (paper-based TOEFL and written test) during the new student orientation.  If a student performs poorly on the placement exam and does not demonstrate the proficiency necessary to be successful in the IELP, s/he cannot study at the University of Findlay.  International Admissions will help the student transfer to another institution, so s/he can improve his/her English skills. Thus, to avoid numerous students transferring out at the beginning of the semester, it is recommended that students take the TOEFL before arriving to campus.

Students, who arrive late, will be placed based on a short, written exam.  Also, late comers without a verified TOEFL, have no chance of entering an undergraduate or graduate program.  Therefore, it is recommended that students arrive on time to ensure they are accurately placed in the correct program.

Community Members
Community Members are welcome to study as audits. To apply, community members must fill out a short application at International Admissions and Services. Once the application is complete, community member must complete a short writing exam for placement into the program. This exam should be taken during new student orientation.
