your time and effort in addition to allowing you to make the connection
between the world of the liberal arts and an exciting career
outcome! Combine your passion for the liberal arts (history,
political science, English, criminal justice, etc.) and your desire to
graduate with a well-defined career path ahead of you.
As you
major in the Law and Liberal Arts, consider the exciting variety of
courses you will be taking. You are not just preparing for a
career in law, business, or some other worthy endeavor. By taking
our curriculum you will also receive a first-class education and
graduate from UF with the key cultural literacy skills that will allow
you to enter the elite ranks of those who set policy in this state
and the country as a whole. Become a leader by majoring in the
Law and Liberal Arts!
Highlights of the curriculum: We
desire that all our law graduates possess a good knowledge of the
economy and how it affects the law. Our curriculum is unique
in allowing you to choose which particular course you will take to
fulfill this and other goals in our major. Imagine taking, for
example, a course such as economic geography that allows you to study
globalization, the world economy, and the various cultures of the world
- all in one course!
Having been to law school ourselves, we
also understand the need for our students to understand the best
of political science. We therefore ask our students to take
courses such as American Politics in order to explain the
political dimension of law and legal processes. We also offer a
popular International Law course that highlights the relevance of law
in a global context and gives you the opportunity to think about
exciting careers in Washington, D.C. and organizations such as the
United Nations.
We also are firm believers that legal
professionals who understand their own history and culture have a
better chance of assuming leadership roles later on in their
careers. You will thus have the chance to take American,
European, and Global history courses that will count towards your law
degree and expand your horizons at the same time.
Our law
courses are of course the foundation for the overall program. Did
you know that many first-year law students fail or quit law school
after the first year because they do not understand the basics of the
legal system and culture in the first place? By taking our
curriculum and courses such as Constitutional Law, Criminal Law,
Business Law, Administrative Law, American Legal History, Judicial
Process, and electives such as Law and Film you will gain the "inside
knowledge" you need to succeed on day one in law school or any other
endeavor you choose!
Interested in an even broader exposure to
the liberal arts? We ask our students to take courses that will
be enjoyable but that will also round out their reading, writing, and
oral communication skills as well. Theater, women's studies,
philosophy, criminal justice, anthropology, art, music, foreign
language, English, and more are all part of our curriculum as
well! In many ways, Law and Liberal Arts is "two majors for the
price of one": you get legal training and a first-class liberal arts
education as well for your valuable tuition dollars. Have fun in
college while maintaining focus on a well-respected legal career path
at the same time!
