February: Love and Compassion

“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive” -Dalai Lama

[Be] Compassionate

Love and compassion are two powerful virtues that have the ability to unify mankind through the warm spirit of kindness, appreciation and concern. These selfless traits rely on the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own. Seek to offer love and compassion to others and you will help renew your soul and humanity.

Random acts of kindness:

  • Send a friend or loved one a thoughtful message or poem
  • Deliver a card or flowers to a hospital patient
  • Offer a compliment to the person on the bus, in line, at the store, etc.
  • Deliver an elderly neighbor's mail each day
  • Donate food, clothes, or money to a non-profit organization
  • Offer to volunteer at a local shelter or food bank
"I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love."  -Mother Teresa

Draper to Speak on Love and Compassion

The ‘Power of Positive’ celebration began in November, and each month has been dedicated to a different aspect of human goodness.

While January was the month of wisdom and creativity, February is the month of compassion and love. In observance of this month’s theme, Linda Draper, Ph. D, will present a lecture on February 15 at 7 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union.

Draper is a spiritual director and formational counselor who also serves as a communications consultant for Winebrenner Theological Seminary. As a leader, teacher, editor and published author, she is active in both ministry and education.

Her ties to The University of Findlay are strong. Draper is the leader of a bible study for international students at the University. After attaining her undergraduate degree in elementary education from Frostburg State University, she earned a master of arts in theological studies and a master of divinity equivalency from Winebrenner Theological Seminary. Following, she earned a doctor of ministry degree in formational counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary.

In summarizing her message for the lecture she will present, Draper says: “life was never meant to be lived alone. We have the privilege of both sharing and receiving from others two significant gifts: compassion and love. Learn how both to give and discover these essentials of life.”
