March: Courage and Perseverance

"Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point." -C.S. Lewis

"You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore." -Christopher Columbus

[Be] Courageous

What is courage? According the Webster Dictionary, courage is the mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty. Courage is often associated with the daily heroes of our lives such as police officers, soldiers, fire fighters, etc. While these public service workers exemplify courage through great deeds, they are not alone. The real test of courage is also presented in our daily lives.

Every day presents an opportunity to demonstrate our own valor and strength. Face each day and challenge the adversity that comes your way. Be courageous and speak the truth, be strong and stand up for your beliefs, be persistent and take the path of least resistance. Everything you need is already inside. Recognize your own strength and put your courage to the test.

Exercise your mental and moral strength by:

  • Taking a stand on a controversial issue
  • Facing a new fear or an unfamiliar situation each day
  • Resisting negative peer pressure
  • Being true to yourself and others
  • Taking initiative to do what is right
  • Pushing to improve yourself each day
  • Rising up after failures and courageously trying again

"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow."  -Mary Anne Radmacher
