Career Opportunities
One of the advantages of being a psychology major is that it opens the door to many career opportunities. Students with bachelor degrees can often find jobs working at social service agencies, government offices, hospitals, research centers, law enforcement, businesses, schools, and other places that need the skills you can provide as a Psychology major. The
Occupational Outlook Handbook
reports that there will be many jobs available for Psychology majors in the next ten years. Those interested in research have many opportunities to work on their own research ideas or work in cooperative research with faculty.
If you are interested in going on to graduate school, you could get your advanced degree in Psychology, Law, Social Work, Education, Counseling, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Medicine, or Music/Art Therapy. The undergraduate degree will open up many doors for graduate school, and with that advanced professional degree, you will have many opportunities to find careers that are rewarding.
In the past ten years, our Psychology graduates have gone on to graduate school at The Chicago School of Psychology, NYU, John Carroll, Depaul, Wright State, Adler School of Psychology, Dayton, The Ohio State, Indiana State, Case Western Reserve, Heidelberg, Tiffin, University of North Carolina,Walden University, Eastern Virginia Medical School, Winebrenner Theological Seminary, and The University of Findlay. For those who wanted to work after graduation, our graduates received employment at mental health centers, children services, government facilities, research centers, camps for wayward kids, 4-H, and businesses in the advertising, HR, and marketing areas.
The Psychology program has revised the Psychology Manual 2011-2013 that is designed to help you learn more about career opportunities in the field and to help you plan your four years at UF. Contact any of the Psychology professors and they can provide you with this Manual.
