The Liberal Arts at Findlay

The Liberal Arts at Findlay
At The University of Findlay, The College of Liberal Arts (COLA) is home to some of the disciplines originally included in the trivium and the quadrivium.  These include rhetoric (most notably in the English and Communication departments), logic (Philosophy), music (vocal and instrumental music) and grammar (English).  The remainder of the disciplines that comprised the original seven liberal arts--arithmetic, geometry, and astronomy--are located in UF's College of Sciences.

The world has changed considerably since the days of a classical education, and one result of these changes is an increase in the number of academic disciplines available to students.  Currently, we can separate the many offerings in COLA into three broad categories:

The ArtsArt, Music, and Theatre

The HumanitiesCommunication, English, History, Language and Culture, Philosophy, and Religious Studies

The Social Sciences: Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Law and the Liberal Arts, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology
