Animal Science/Science major

Core courses for all Animal Science majors (13 credit hours):

ANSC 131  Introduction to Animal Science ( 3 cr)    OR
EQST 101  Introduction to Equine Science (3 cr)
ANSC 231  Principles of Food Animal Nutrition (3 cr)    OR 
EQST 201  Principles of Equine Nutrition (3 cr)
ANSC 232  Physiology of Reproduction and Growth (3 cr)    OR
EQST 202  Physiology of Equine Reproduction and Growth (3 cr) 
ANSC 310 Principles of Animal Breeding and Genetics (3 cr)    OR
BIOL 310 Human Genetics
ANSC 499 Senior Seminar in Animal Science (1 cr)

Required courses for the Animal Science/Science major include (12-16 credit hours):

CHEM 130/130L General Chemistry I (4 cr)
CHEM 131/131L General Chemistry II (4 cr)
CHEM 310/310L Organic Chemistry I (4 cr)
CHEM 311/311L  Organic Chemistry II  (4 cr)   OR
CHEM 325/325/L Basic Organic & Biochemistry (4 cr)   

Additional coursework needed:

  • Animal Production courses - students are required to take 3 of 5 courses for 6 credit hours
  • Animal Science electives - students are required to take 15 credit hours with 9 credits being 300 level or higher
