Biology

Our students begin their education by focusing on core courses -Biodiversity, Introduction to Cell and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Ecology, and Introduction to Research- that will prepare them for upper division courses.  Additionally, students will partake in seminar courses in which faculty from UF and other institutions will present current research topics and provide a broad scope of biological topics.

If your areas of interest are more ecology based, we have several unique opportunities for you.  You will have the opportunity to observe nature and conduct research at the Rieck Center for Habitat Studies.  The diversity of habitat — riparian, woods, flood plain and prairie, as well as a bird observation room, feeding station and butterfly/hummingbird gardens — provides a living laboratory for such study.

If you're more molecular minded, we have newly renovated labs in the new Davis Street Building for our Molecular and Cellular Courses. These laboratories will focus on molecular techniques including gel electrophoresis, PCR, and protein chromatography.  The Davis Street Building also contains a research laboratory for students to collaborate with faculty on independent research projects.
