Biology
Whether your interests include saving the rainforest or unraveling the secrets of DNA, we can prepare you for your future career or graduate school. We offer four emphasis areas: agricultural, ecological, life sciences, and wildlife management. With our broad base of courses, we will help you to compete in the ever-changing scientific community and job market.
If your areas of interest are more ecology based, we have several unique opportunities for you. You will have the opportunity to observe nature and do research at the Rieck Center for Habitat Studies. The diversity of habitat — riparian, woods, flood plain and prairie, as well as a bird observation room, feeding station and butterfly/hummingbird gardens — provides a living laboratory for such study.
If you're more molecular minded, we have two newly renovated labs in the new Davis Street Building for our Immunology, Cell Biology, Genetics, and Microbiology courses. These laboratories will focus on molecular techniques including gel electrophoresis, PCR, and protein chromatography. The Davis Street Building also contains a research laboratory for students to collaborate with faculty on independent research projects.
