Chemistry

Chemistry
In the developed countries of the world, we have a standard of living that may have seemed a fantasy half a century ago.  Evolutions in science and technology allow us to live extended lives free of many diseases which plagued humankind since the beginning of recorded time, travel the world rapidly, communicate with others across the globe in fractions of seconds and live in comfortable dwellings.

These developed countries require scientists and technicians with educational training in chemistry.  Chemistry is often referred to as the central science because its principles and concepts are found in biology, physics, geology, and medicine.  All fields in the health sciences, life sciences, physical sciences, and earth sciences require a well developed understanding of chemical principles.

Chemistry deals with the changes which occur in matter - the physical substance of the Universe.  When most people think of chemistry, they envision test tubes and beakers, and pouring solutions together to observe any physical changes which would indicate that a rearrangement of matter has occurred.  What many people don't realize is that chemistry also deals with the changes in the states of matter, for example, changing from a liquid to a solid or a gas and the gain or loss of energy which accompanies these processes.  Of course, these are just a few examples of what chemistry really entails.

In order to study chemistry, it is necessary to have a very good understanding of mathematics and a working knowledge of physics is helpful.

It is hoped that you will explore the links provided to learn more about the chemistry course offerings, faculty, and various careers open to a graduate with a bachelor's degree in chemistry.
