Chemistry/Pre-Medicine Option

A career as a physician requires scientific and medical knowledge as well as a caring and compassionate personality. An option for students interested in a medical career is the pre-medicine curriculum of the chemistry major. Graduates of this strand receive a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and gain the knowledge needed for entrance into medical schools.

Our faculty. . . inspiration and collaboration

Many faculty members work with colleagues in all disciplines and often invite students to participate in research projects. Areas of UF faculty expertise include: organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry and biochemistry.  Participation in research projects allows UF students to share their discoveries with others through presentations or poster sessions at the University’s Symposium on Scholarship and Creativity or at regional or national American Chemical Society (ACS) conferences.

Facilities and equipment

Potential chemistry students visiting The University of Findlay campus tour our fully-equipped general, organic and analytical chemistry laboratories. These labs house equipment that includes:

  • A high-performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC)
  • Gas chromatographs (GC)
  • Gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GCMS)
  • Atomic absorption (AA) spectrometer
  • Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR)
