Computer Science
Our
program provides a flexible four-year bachelor of science degree in
computer science where students can specialize in an emphasis area that
will best prepare them with the technological career goals needed in today's corporations or to continue their education in graduate school.
Current emphasis areas include: business, computer systems, information assurance, mathematics and web and database.
All of the emphasis areas are comprised of a core of courses that
develop strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Students learn
technical concepts through traditional computer science classes, the
use of object-oriented programming languages, client/server
applications development, data communications and Internet
technologies. In addition, the University offers a two-year associate's
degree, a minor in computer science, a minor in information
processing and a certificate in computer applications.
The computer science degree at The University of Findlay offers small class sizes, new lab facilities, real world experiences, and software licensing through the Microsoft Academic Alliance.
Class sizes average 15 students per section, offering individual attention when needed.
New lab facilities for the Fall of 2007 include the Network Security Lab (Net-Sec Lab). This lab will offer hands-on training in the areas of network administration, network security, server-side software development and communication protocols.
There is a high demand for computer science majors in the role of internships and co-ops. Students gain valuable on the job training while earning a good wage at the same time. Positions exist on and off campus. Local companies that continue to request our students include Cooper Tire and Rubber Company, Marathon Ashland Petroleum Company, and many others.
The Microsoft Academic Alliance gives students free access to many software applications and development tools that Microsoft has created.
