Career Opportunities

A computer science graduate can make a career in the following disciplines:


Software Developer/Systems Analyst

Business transactions today are highly dependent on software. As a software developer/systems analyst, computer science graduates will be required to have sufficient knowledge of different operating systems and software development environments. You will analyze and evaluate existing and proposed systems to create and maintain computer programs and operating systems to process information. Job responsibilities might include designing, coding, testing, debugging, installing, documenting, and maintaining software and systems. Our Business and Computer Systems Emphasis areas prepare students for this.  


Networking/Telecommunications Specialist 

As telecommunications and computer systems become more integrated, there is a constant need for qualified computer science graduates who can understand the two systems so that they can deliver hardware and software solutions. Our Computer Systems, Information Assurance and Mathematics Emphasis areas get students ready for this kind of work.


Database Systems Administrator

A database administrator (DBA) is responsible for the planning, maintenance and development of a database. Responsibilities would include keeping data consistent across the database, making sure the data is clearly defined, enabling users to access data concurrently with a user friendly form, and maintaining data security and recovery control.  Job responsibilities might also include administration of internet, intranet and other database servers. Our BusinessInformation Assurance and Web Technologies Emphasis areas prepare students for this job.


System and Security Administrator

As networked computing and Internet become a way of life, many systems and security issues arise. There is a need for professionals specializing in system and security administration. Job responsibilities might include maintaining system security, monitoring usage statistics, monitoring logs and troubleshooting configuration settings. Our Computer Systems and Information Assurance Emphasis areas would prepare students for this type of work.


Graduate School 

The Computer Systems and Mathematics Emphasis would make for the best foundation in preparation for a graduate degree in Computer Science.  Many companies with research and development areas are requiring an advanced degree for entry level positions.
