Work and Internship Opportunities

There are numerous professional work experience opportunities for undergraduate students in the Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Management Program during their time at Findlay. Opportunities exist with private firms, public corporations, and government sector offices.

Whether it is working in the disaster stricken gulf coast performing cleanup operations from the hurricanes or performing safety audits of the workforce on a petrochemical plant turn around in the upper Midwestern United States, UF students obtain great experience as well as a good salary during summer time or school year work experience programs.
Salaries for the professional experience program range from $10.00 per hour up to $17.00 per hour!

Past work experiences include the following types of businesses:
  • Automotive manufacturing
  • Petrochemical plants
  • Municipal government offices, health departments or engineers offices
  • Remediation contractors
  • Environmental consulting firms
  • Electronic parts manufacturing
  • Motorcycle manufacturing
  • Food processing companies
  • Steel making and coating
  • Oil refinery
  • United States Public Health Service (CDC, BIH, EPA)

Students interested in work experience should contact The University of Findlay's Office of Career Services and/or the Environmental Programs Jobs Page or visit the jobs bulletin board outside Room 115 in Brewer Science Hall. 

Internships in environmental, safety, and occupational health management may be taken for up to 15 semester hours. To be eligible for an internship for credit students must have taken ESOH 100, ESOH 180, ESOH 270 and ESOH 300 and at least two science courses  In addition, the student needs permission of the instructor supervising internships, and completion of an application from the Office of Career Services  This experience includes a practical experience-oriented activity demonstrating cumulative skills and knowledge involving a significant work experience in which students work for a company or public entity involved in any facet of an environmental, safety, and health industry. The work experience must be pre-approved by a faculty member and the Office of Career Services
