The University of Findlay also offers the opportunity to combine an equestrian studies degree with a second major of choice, providing the combination of skills necessary to pursue the career that is right for each student. This can also increase marketability upon graduation and give the competitive edge necessary for success. Students may choose to double major in equine business management or in another field such as communications, art, criminal justice or psychology, to name a few. In addition, faculty advisors can design customized majors. Many minors are also available to compliment the equestrian degree.
In addition to the intensive riding program, a series of equine courses, such as judging, nutrition, reproduction, preventive medicine, farm and stable management, marketing, software application, equine law, exercise physiology and therapeutic riding, complete the well-rounded course of study. Students gain additional insight through nationally recognized guest speakers and the coverage of special topics such as promotional sales and showing.
Students completing an equine studies degree may seek to strengthen their educational goals through the Professional Experience Program (PEP). Many equine-related internships are available on either a credit or noncredit basis. For more information, students may contact the PEP Office.
