Alumni Profile Spotlight

Laurie DeLalla

Laurie DeLalla graduated from The University of Findlay's English Equestrian Program in 2004.  While attending UF, Laurie rode with the IHSA team for one year.  Laurie rode on the IDA team for two years and competed at the IDA National Championships.  Laurie's fondest memories of her time here at UF involve her favorite horse - Empire.  Laurie helped develop Empire into an excellent vaulting horse.

Laurie now works for HEART (Humane Equine Aid and Rapid Transit) Equine Ambulance.  Laurie was working for a large stable as a rider/groom, but she was ready for a change.  Through networking, HEART Equine Ambulance management heard that Laurie was looking for a new career.  Laurie now drives a truck and ambulance across the country to horse shows.  Laurie has the ambulance and equipment ready for the horse show's veterinarian to tend to the injured or sick horse.  Two of her favorite shows to work are the Charlotte Jumper Classic in North Carolina and Devon Horse Show in Pennsylvania.  Laurie is looking forward to November of 2008, when she will travel for the first time to Quarter Horse World in Oklahoma.

During the summer months, Laurie takes a break from her hectic schedule with HEART and works at a Girl Scout Camp in Northern California.  Laurie is the Equestrian Director for Skylark Ranch in Santa Cruz.

When asked what advice she would give high school students that are considering a career in the equine industry, Laurie had two recommendations:
  • pursue a dual major
  • participate in as many internships as possible to find your niche.
