Alumni Profile Spotlight

Coagi (Maten) Long  graduated summa cum laude from The University of Findlay in 2003 , earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a dual major in marketing and equestrian studies, and a minor in operations and logistics management.  Coagi started working at Equine Affaire in 2003.  Her first position was in the Marketing Department.  She is currently the Program Director of the Clinic and Seminar Programs. Equine Affaire will be holding their 15th annual exposition at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus, Ohio in April, 2008. Coagi has been busy confirming arrangements for all of the presenters and their sessions at Equine Affaire.  She has been negotiating contracts, developing educational schedules, session topics and titles.  Coagi has organized the "Ride With The Best" program for which she has recruited horses and riders for the clinics.  She has also organized the "Craig Cameron's Extreme Cowboy Race".

While attending UF, Coagi competed on both the IHSA and IDA teams. Coagi won an IHSA National Championship title for three consecutive years for The University of Findlay team. She was part of the 2001 National Championship and the 2003 Reserve National Championship teams. Coagi earned the IDA Reserve National Championship in 2003.
When asked what advice she would give high school students considering careers in the equine industry, Coagi had the following recommendations:
  • Obtain an education at a college offering an equestrian major.
  • Pursue a dual major as you don't always know if you will want to completely dedicate yourself to a strictly hands-on horse job.  A dual major can provide many excellent opportunities in the future.
  • Explore your options by job shadowing.
Keep an open mind, take life's events in stride, and always keep a smile!
Besides her full schedule at Equine Affaire, Coagi has a farm in West Mansfield, Ohio where she trains warmbloods and thoroughbreds.  She also continues to compete in dressage.
