Subway Memorial
The English Equestrian Program was saddened by the loss of Subway, who passed away on August 31, 2009, at the age of 21. Subway (an Oldenburg gelding) was the first Upper Level Dressage horse donated to the University, and he helped build the Dressage Program. He worked with students for six years in the program. Subway was enjoyed and loved by many students, both in class and in competition. He was known as the "School Master". Subway inspired many students to excel in the sport of Dressage. He had a tremendous amount of knowledge, presence and heart. He will truly be missed.
In the prime of his Dressage career, Subway was trained and shown by Olympic medalist, Margit Otto-Crepin of France. The pair competed internationally at the Grand Prix level.
We would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Ralph and Diane Hodges of Powell, Ohio for donating such a wonderfully talented horse.
Grace Olsen ('07) was one of many students fortunate enough to know Subway. She sent these photos to honor this wonderful horse and friend.
