I am at my new home for the summer and early fall, Buxton Farm in Frenchtown, New Jersey. It was a long trip home, but I had all of my buddies with me. I like to be on the van first, even though I don't like waiting for everyone else to get on, but at least I know no one will leave me behind!! We had a new driver this trip, a great guy from Kentucky named Jim. I think I was his favorite. He laughed (at least I think that was laughter) when I dumped the whole bucket of water on him and then made him come in the box stall to comfort me. I get that a lot - the comfort thing. Being demanding and pawing with your legs high in the air really does get their attention. It makes me smile thinking about how easy people are to train.
There were only five of us the first four weeks we were in New Jersey. I got the best stall (of course) and my best friend Remy is right next to me. This place is beyond awesome!! The stalls are huge and we have windows to put our heads out in front and in back. The stalls are built with beautiful wood that is
really
hard to chew. The hay comes from above, out of this little door. The first time the hay came down, it
REALLY
scared me! Now, I just look up and my people know to send me down my hay. It just comes down to careful training, you have to keep them fit!
Let me tell you about the huge indoor arena. The footing makes me look like I'm floating on air! Everyone that watches me just stares. At first I was very surprised that people were staring at me, but then I found out that I look even cuter when I have that surprised look. You know me, I love the attention!! Hey, did I mention the great paddocks we have? They would be fantastic except for the killer flies.
Have you ever seen New Jersey flies?
I put on quite a show because of them. I leap high and then take a dive down for some grass - grab a mouthful and leap again. This would make Betsy extremely nervous, so she would bring me right in. She really felt bad for me, so guess what? I now have a complete fly outfit!
Training is going great! Guess who goes out first thing in the morning? Yup - ME! I then have the rest of the day to be turned out, hand walked, nap, and have the massage blanket on - what a great life! Don't get me wrong, I work very hard for the perks. My peeps all know it is worthwhile.
We had some ladies from Texas bring their horses in for training. They loved me so much, they made two special brow-bands just for me.
I hope your summer is going as well as mine. I love my barn, as do all of my peeps, so everyone is in a great mood. Come visit me any time!!
Nickers and snorts!
