The orientation itinerary will provide freshmen with the opportunity to become acquainted with the instructors and the James L. Child Jr. Equestrian Complex facilities. Topics of instruction include hands-on care and management of the horses, dress code, storage of tack and equipment, student responsibilities, etc.
The University of Findlay sets high standards for the care, safety and professionalism of both equine and equestrian students. This introductory orientation is a crucial prerequisite to beginning equestrian classes at the farm the following week. All new students and transfer students with fewer than 12 attempted college credit hours must attend.
If you have not attended an on-campus registration forum prior to the English equestrian orientation, you must register on August 21, 2008. Please mark this important date on your calendar.
The English equestrian equipment lists (dressage or hunter jumper) provides you with an outline to help you with your purchases. If you need assistance, a tack store will be on the premises during freshmen orientation, and our staff will be available to help with selection of proper equipment. When in doubt please wait for assistance. We understand budget limitations, so please forward any questions.
Tack lockers are provided at the Child Complex and are assigned during freshmen orientation. Each locker houses a saddle rack, two bridle racks and a shelf for all equipment storage. Each student will supply his/her own lock.
Pre-approval is required if you would like to utilize your personal horse as your assigned freshmen riding horse.
