The University of Findlay is presenting youth western horsemanship schools to further educate interested riders. The school will offer the same techniques that are taught in the University’s Western Equestrian Studies Program. The instruction will be given by Clark Bradley, Steve Brown, and their assistants, and will include horsemanship, western pleasure, showmanship and the fundamentals of reining.
Each student will work with his or her own horse under the personal supervision of the equestrian staff. Lectures and demonstrations will be given daily to enhance students’ skills. Along with individual and class instruction and videotaping, there will be evening video analysis.
The youth sessions also participate in evening recreational activities and have access to The University of Findlay facilities.
The youth schools will be offered in June. The applications are processed on a first come, first served basis, with limited enrollment. Upon acceptance, a confirmation letter will be sent with further details.

Sessions:
Novice/Intermediate Session (ages 10-18): June 15-20, 2008
Arrive Sunday, school starts on Monday and students depart on Friday.
Advanced Rider Session (ages 14-18): June 22-27, 2008
Students must have an invitation, video or letter of recommendation. Acceptance is based on approval by equestrian staff. Arrive Sunday, school starts on Monday and students depart on Friday.

Clark Bradley, the 2001 American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Professional Horseman of the Year, is a riding instructor in the western program, a graduate of Texas Christian University and a 30-year veteran of the horse training industry. His achievements include: 1994 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Hall of Fame inductee; director of the Ohio Quarter Horse Association (OQHA) for 24 years; OQHA honorary director and past president; AQHA national director and chairman of the AQHA Horse Show Committee; two-time winner of the NRHA Futurity and winner of multiple championships at the All American Quarter Horse Congress in versatility, junior and senior reining, junior western pleasure, 2-year-old pleasure futurity, team roping and cutting. Mr. Bradley has conducted adult and youth horsemanship schools for more than 28 years and is an approved AQHA, NSBA and NRHA judge.
Steve Brown, The University of Findlay’s Director of Western Riding, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Glenville State College. He has trained and shown horses for more than 20 years in various events, including western pleasure, western riding, reining, cutting and roping. Mr. Brown is an approved AQHA, NSBA and NRHA judge and has judged throughout the United States, Europe and Australia. His students have achieved state and national rankings and have won titles and placed well at the All American Quarter Horse Congress.
There will also be selected university students and instructors to assist with teaching.

Miscellaneous:
The following are required for all horses (bring records to verify):
- Negative coggins.
- Flu, Rhino and Strangles vaccinations.
- Tetanus is strongly recommended.
- Deworm your horse two weeks before arrival.
- Sawdust, cleaning equipment, water and feed buckets are provided by the university.
- You may bring your own feed.
- Parking is available if you prefer to leave your trailer.
