For over 30 years, The University of Findlay has set the standard for excellence in western equestrian studies. Students are instructed five days per week.  Techniques in showmanship, horsemanship and western pleasure are refined in the first year of training.

The program then progresses through colt breaking, cutting, reining and finishing pleasure horses for the show ring. Other areas covered include western riding, hunt seat and trail. Customer relations skills are emphasized, as well as the production of a horse that is easily ridden by an owner or prospective buyer.

In addition to the intensive riding program, a series of equine courses such as nutrition, reproduction, judging and preventive medicine complete the well-rounded course of study. Special topics covered include equine law, farm and stable management, equine marketing, therapeutic riding, equine exercise physiology and software applications for equine businesses. Students gain additional insight through guest instructors.  

Equestrian studies students are encouraged to carry a second major or minor to expand their marketability in the equine industry.
