Summer Programs

PACERS Residential Summer Camp
This camp is hosted by the University of South Carolina; prepares pre-med students to be competitive in the AAMCAS application process. Attendees will learn to write competitive personal statements, interview skill, perform dissections, shadow physicians, and discuss current issues in healthcare. Students must have completed 60 college credit hours; cost is $995.00 which includes everything but spending cash for a stay from Sunday June 1 through Thursday June 5, 2008. Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)
This summer program, hosted by Ohio University, is designed for students interested in careers in medicine or biomedical research. Students in the program work for eight weeks in an active research laboratory under the guidance of a Biomedical Science faculty member. For more information please see:

The University of Toledo Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program
This 10-week fellowship is intended for undergraduates who are interested in a biomedical research career. Fellows work full-time on a biomedical research project and learn a variety of techniques and procedures as well as receive hands-on experience in biomedical research. Fellows also participate in weekly seminars that cover topics related to scientific research and bioethics such as the use of animals in research, succeeding in graduate school, grant writing and the biotech industry. Summer Medical Dental Education Program
This program is a free six-week summer enrichment program for freshman and sophomore students interested in promoting diversity within medicine and dentistry. The program is offered at 12 sites around the country including Case Western Reserve University, Duke University and the University of Louisville. For more information, see

Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine
The seventh annual summer course in Human Anatomy for Undergraduates will be offered by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine this year. The course will run for four weeks in June, 2008 on the medical school campus in Baltimore, and will include both lectures and demonstrations using human cadavers. Applications will be accepted from all currently enrolled undergraduates who have completed their sophomore year of college. More course details and application forms can be found at:

University of Cincinnati R.O.S.E. Program
This program is available to Ohio residents with an earned equivalent credit for at least one semester of Organic Chemistry. Interested students must be a sophomore and have a B+ GPA or above to apply. Applications are to be received by March 1, 2008 for an 8-10 week summer research internship with a biomedical focus.
