College of Sciences Lecture Series

Fall 2006

Online Technology Application In Science Curricula
Thursday, November 2, 2006 @ 4:00 PM
Martin Lecture Hall - Brewer Science Building

Dr. Michael T. Homsher
Associate Professor of Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health
2006-07 COS Faculty Chair

A combination of teaching strategies, Blackboard technology and a national science education model is being applied at The University of Findlay. Specific items to be shared are our common blackboard approach with recorded streaming audiovisual presentations (Tegrity), online laboratories (www.latenitelabs.com) and Visual Sampling Plan. This approach draws on National Science Foundation (NSF) interdisciplinary science teaching strategies developed and applied in secondary and postsecondary institutions. We focus on an inquiry approach rather than content, thus incorporating facts as needed to allow participants to learn in a problem-solving context. This research is part of a three year NSF project tracing changes in faculty teaching practices after participation in an NSF workshop.
