Department Goals

 
Mission Statement 
The Department of Pharmacy Practice is committed to providing excellent education to pharmacy students and pharmacists, enabling them to provide high quality patient care, while serving the community through practice, education and research.

Goals
The Department of Pharmacy Practice has three goals centered around teaching, service and research.

Teaching
Goal: To provide students with high quality pharmacy practice education and training.

To reach this goal, the department will:

  • Provide faculty members with opportunities for personal and professional development
  • Develop post-graduate residency programs
  • Utilize active learning in the classroom
  • Provide faculty with ongoing teaching methodology and curricular review
  • Provide faculty opportunities for the provision of patient care and innovative practice to bring back to the classroom

Service
Goal: To provide professional service to the School of Pharmacy, University and community.

To reach this goal, the department will:

  • Provide faculty opportunities for the provision of patient care to members of the community
  • Encourage faculty members to participate in School and University committees
  • Encourage faculty members to participate in professional organizations at the local, state and national level
  • Encourage faculty members to provide professional and community education programs
  • Participate in and contribute to University governance and School and department activities
  • Support the development and implementation of a patient safety institute

Research
Goal: To conduct research in areas consistent with the department faculty expertise.

To reach this goal, the department will:

  • Provide necessary space, resources and time for research and scholarly activity
  • Foster faculty mentoring and training in the development of personal research goals
  • Encourage faculty to provide scientific seminars and posters at professional meetings
  • Involve interested faculty in ongoing research initiatives within the School and/or with other programs or universities
