College of Pharmacy
Michael Carter
Originally from Dayton Ohio, Michael Carter, is an Alter High School graduate, and a graduate of The Ohio State University with a BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences. He selected The University of Findlay College of Pharmacy because it was a small program and just getting started. Michael had heard through the 'grapevine' a new pharmacy school was opening and thought he would get his application in as soon as possible.

Now that he is here, he loves that his class size is small and they all get to know each other. He says “they have a lot of fun working on projects and studying together”. He also really likes that the faculty members know each student fairly well. Michael’s favorite class is the Cardio Course, simply because there was a wealth of knowledge in that class and it is so valuable and applicable to so many patients that we see every day. He says “the faculty feels more like friends than instructors” and having faculty that are extremely knowledgeable and are fun to have class with, makes school much more enjoyable.
Along with going to school, Michael has been employed by Drug Mart for the last eight years, full time and part-time as a pharmacy tech and intern. Michael is excited to soon become a professional and serve the community. His career goals are to work in retail pharmacy initially and also do hospital pharmacy part-time. Down the road he says he is very interested in nuclear pharmacy. Some organizations he is involved in are: APhA, ASP, FAPA and SSHP. One accomplishment that he is proud of is that he did not give up trying to get in to pharmacy school when he was not originally accepted. Another proud moment was earning a certificate in gerontology and being awarded the Gretchen Beddow & Gretchen Orth Award for Excellence in Gerontology. Michael has made Dean's List every semester while at The University of Findlay College of Pharmacy, except one
Michael perspective on pharmacy that he wants to share with prospective students is: “getting through pharmacy school is not easy and you need to study a lot. But you will have knowledge that no other health care worker will have and are a vital piece in the health care structure. Knowledge is power and we as pharmacists have the knowledge to help many people who would otherwise not have help. It is a great profession.”
