Experiential Education
What is Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiential Education? Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiential Education (IPPE) is incorporated into the curriculum of P3 through P5 students. Students must complete 50 hours of unpaid, supervised experience with a pharmacist practitioner during each semester of their P3, P4 and P5 years. Examples include, but are not limited to, community pharmacy, institutional pharmacy, long-term care, mail order pharmacy and compounding pharmacy. Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) is also known as early experience or intermediate pharmacy practice experience. Early Experience is newly required by the Accreditation Council of Pharmacy Education (ACPE) for accredited programs. Each School of Pharmacy or College of Pharmacy may structure their early experience program differently or may use different terms to define it. The Goal of Early Experiential EducationThe College of Pharmacy's goal for experiential education is to provide practical, supervised, intellectually stimulating professional experiences which will enable students to develop a fundamental understanding of various segments of the healthcare system and how the pharmacist integrates into those settings.Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience Manual 2010The IPPE Manual is intended to provide students and preceptors with the tools they need to understand and successfully complete the Univerisity of Findlay's IPPE program.
