Pharmacy Students Volunteer to Help City of Findlay with Medication Collection Day

(Click on photo to view more pictures)

In spring 2011, students and faculty members from the College of Pharmacy were asked to participate in Medication Collection Day, a joint effort of the City of Findlay Health Department, Water Pollution Control and the Findlay City Police Department, as well as the Hancock County Community Partnership and the University. The goal of the day was to encourage individuals to clean out their medicine cabinets of expired and unused prescription medication and dispose of them safely.

“The oldest medication I saw was something that had to have been at least 40-years-old,” said Donald Stansloski, R.Ph., Ph.D., dean of the College of Pharmacy. He also noted that many medications were much more recent.

At Stansloski’s station, students confirmed that tablets matched the package label and counted the number of tablets. Stansloski entered that data into a computer system. Three barrels full of discarded drugs were collected that day.
